Shop Small for Valentine’s Day

Many of the shops in Downtown, Brenham celebrated Galentine’s Day, and had delicious treats such as  cookies, candies, crackers and some yummy drinks. This was a big effort to encourage local people to shop small for Valentines Day.

I enjoyed speaking with the staff and owners. These shops are locally owned by our neighbors, and when you support them, you are also supporting the community.

These are the same people who generously donate to local fundraisers, charities, youth sports etc. Spending your money at small businesses not only makes the owners appreciative, but also allows them to have the funds to give back to the community like so many love to do.

Some of the small business owners have stated that they have seen a decrease in sales since bigger stores have moved into Brenham. Events like these remind us that small businesses are truly the heart of a small town, which is why it is important to support them.

My husband and I started a security and alarm company three years ago, called Easy Access Technologies, and I can say from experience that local support makes a huge difference. The more support we get to our business, the more we have the flexibility to shop small, dine in to local restaurants more often, and even contribute to local fundraisers.

It’s important for us all to remember that if we do not support these mom and pop shops, some of them will eventually close and there will be nothing left but the big stores on the side of the highway.

Stop by some of the small shops in town and recommend them to your friends and family. When we shop small, we all win.
